Paint your Self Portrait
September 7, 2014, 10 – 5 p.m.
fee $100
pay here
or send check c/o Jody Mattison 813 West Third Street, Antioch Ca 94509

This one-day workshop, will focus on painting the self-portrait from life. Using the mirror provided, students will work on a painting of their head and shoulders. Emphasis will be on using proportion, measuring, diagonals, value and a limited palette. Student will learn how to draw with the brush, block in light and shadow shapes, refine and work to a finish.

We will be working in with the ancient limited palette (just look at some cave paintings) of titanium white, yellow ochre, red ochre (terra rosa), and ivory black. (Color mixing with such a limited palette is a lesson in color saturation, as two of the four pigments have no color at all, and the other two are desaturated color. )
